Becca Mulenburg, was born and raised in New London, WI, and currently paints full-time in Southeast Wisconsin. She is a self-taught artist and received great inspiration from a general drawing and composition class at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. After working her way through college, she entered the corporate world as a means to make a living. A career in art wasn’t suited to Becca’s practical upbringing, but she never abandoned her love for art.
In 2006, having worked in Minneapolis and San Antonio for many years, a move back to Wisconsin fueled her desire to pick up the brush again as a way of coping with her father’s poor health. For years, she’d dabbled in charcoal, acrylics and pottery, but this time Becca decided to teach herself oil painting and hasn’t looked back since.
Along with being varied, Becca Mulenburg’s work is representational, and she hopes to draw the viewer in for a closer look. She derives inspiration from her surroundings, whether it’s Wisconsin’s landscape, a visiting bird, or the people around her. Her Wisconsin landscapes capture today’s agricultural scenes and usually highlight the signature red barn in its surroundings. Many of her animal paintings are birds, poised in conversation with the viewer as if communicating a thought or emotion. Becca likes portrait and figurative painting as well, and is continually experimenting, taking on new challenges with each artistic session.
In 2010, Becca Mulenburg received her first sold-out show with her miniature, agricultural-themed, Wisconsin landscapes at Cedarburg Cultural Center’s The Little Show. In January, 2011, she was again awarded for her miniatures in The Little Show and received the second-place award among forty-one artists. Becca’s work has been sold internationally, and she is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists, Cedarburg Artists’ Guild, and the Plymouth Arts Center.
