Margret Petrie

Margret Petrie works in acrylic and mixed media, using canvas, tissue paper, and papers to create mostly abstract works. She makes monoprints with a gel printing plate, acrylic paint, and unconventional tools including bamboo skewers, bubble wrap, combs, Nerf darts, screen, dental floss, and forks. Margret then cuts pieces from hundreds of these papers to create mixed media collages, which often reflect the organic shapes and marks of tree branches, leaves, tall prairie grass, beach glass, and river rocks. Margret creates intuitively, trusting that the piece will evolve from the process of doing, and not planning.  Select exhibitions include Museum of Wisconsin Art, Var Gallery, The Arts Mill, The Art Bar, and Urban Ecology Center.
