Koretta Bearer

My favorite quote was expressed by Erma Bombeck-

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.

Quilting has given me the opportunity to meet many wonderful people.  It is a sense of comfort, creativity and joy.  Whether I am quilting a top for someone else or creating a one-of-a-kind piece, I let the fabric talk to me.  I also enjoy weaving on a loom, cross stitching, sewing as well as flower and herb gardening.

I have made quilts from baby clothes, t-shirts and creating quotes on a quilt with my embroidery machine.  The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Textiles have some of my pieces, and I currently offer my talent to a group making quilts for veterans.  I belong to Ladies of the Lake quilt group that donates quilts to numerous charities, and have made dresses and shorts for Little Dresses for Africa.  I also help the First Immanuel Ladies Guild make mission quilts.

I have two wonderful grown daughters and, yes, you guessed it, they are both in the arts field.  One is here at the Arts Mill and the other involved in teaching dance.

Being at the Arts Mill has allowed me to find my artistic roots again.  The women here are so dynamic and multi-talented it’s not hard to find inspiration!
