TYPE OF WORK:  

This exhibit will explore interpretations of spirituality, religion and sacred imagery in today’s contemporary art. Today, the term “religion” has taken on a much broader meaning.  Many Contemporary artists incorporate some aspect of spirituality / religion in their work.

Artists in all media are encouraged to submit work with their artistic interpretation incorporating spirituality and/or religious themes (traditional and non-traditional) .

 

Textbook Definition of ICON

1 – a usually pictorial representation

2 – a conventional religious image typically painted on a small wooden panel and used in the devotions of Eastern Christians

3 -an object of uncritical devotion

TYPE OF MEDIA:

All media are acceptable.  Work must be created by an artist 18 or older.  All work must be the artist’s own original concept, design and execution; completed within the past 1-2 years; and not previously shown in the Arts Mill Gallery.  Each piece must be clearly labeled on the back (artist name, title of work, price) and properly framed or mounted and ready to hang.  Framed pieces must have wire attached securely on the back for hanging, NO sawtooth or notchtooth hangers.  Paintings or painted artwork must be completely dry.  All matted works on paper must be behind glass or plexiglass.

Artists who enter video/digital entries are required to provide all equipment required to view their art as well as set up the entry for the exhibit.

FEE AND NUMBER OF ENTRIES:
The entry fee is $20. Each individual artist may submit up to two (2) entries for $20.

 AWARD:
There will be $150 in cash awards given at the opening reception on December 6th from 6:00-9:00pm.

 SALES:
The Arts Mill retains 30% of the price on all items sold during the exhibition. Please price work accordingly.

 SCHEDULE:

  • On-line entries now until Thursday, November 14, 2013.
  • In person – Thursday, November 14th, 11:00am-7:00pm
  • Drop off artwork at the Arts Mill Gallery, located on the 3rd floor of the Arts Mill.
  • Completed labels attached and $20 entry fee due with entries. Please make checks payable to NSAA.
  • Notifications are sent by email November 18.
  • Pick up of any artwork not accepted into the show is on November 19th-23rd, 11:00am-5:00pm. Artwork must be picked up by 5:00pm. The Arts Mill will not be responsible for any work left after the pick up date.
  • Pick up of accepted art after exhibit – January 18th-23rd, 11:00am-5:00pm.
